We are pleased to inform you that, based on recent demand, PSAS has introduced a new service: the assessment of adults for ADD, ADHD and Specific Learning Difficulties/Disorders.
Our comprehensive package includes the following components:
Stroop Test *
* (Stroop, J.R. (1935), Studies of interference in serial verbal reactions. Journal of Experimental Psychology, 18, 643-66).
The Stroop test is a psychological and neuro-psychological assessment that measures a person's ability to inhibit cognitive influence, specifically by naming the colour of the ink of a word when the word itself is a different colour. Sean read a list of colour words printed in black ink and then is asked to name the colour of the ink that the words are printed in, ignoring the actual word. The difference in speed and accuracy between the two conditions reveals the ‘Stroop Effect’ where naming the ink colour of an incongruent word takes longer than reading the word itself. The difference is calculated as a measure of interference, showing how well a person can inhibit the automatic tendence to read the word. The test measures cognitive inhibition, selective attention, processing speed, cognitive flexibility/control, executive functioning and working memory.
